Don’t be fooled, spring cleaning is not only reserved for places with four seasons; it’s something that should be done at least twice a year! There is a certain sense of joy that comes from doing a proper deep clean of one’s living space – not only does it help to create order but it also brings a sense of calm. It is also great to create more space as a spring clean usually goes hand in hand with decluttering!
We know that spring cleaning can be overwhelming, and with our busy lives it is easy to just put it off. We’ve come up with these handy tips to help you get started and get it done and dusted in no time!
Take it one room at a time
As humans we are driven by a sense of achievement. The same goes for cleaning. Don’t allow yourself to get overwhelmed by the sheer amount of work that needs to happen – simply put all your energy into one room at a time. That way you get things done from top to bottom and you will feel great as you tick the rooms off your list! Many people make the mistake of doing all the windows then the floors and then the cupboards – this is the easiest way to lose motivation and not get things done. Keep organised and focused.
Don't just hide it
We all have one – a room, cupboard or area in our homes where everything that does not have a space end up! Instead of just hiding it in your corner of clutter – try and think about the value and purpose of the object. Have you used it in the last 6 months? Will you use it in the next 6 months? If not then perhaps it is time to put that item in storage. At Space Next Door we have the perfect solution for all your storage needs, no matter how big or small. Check out our units here.
Done with it? Donate it!
If you can’t get yourself to put your items into storage and feel that it is time to move on – why not make a box of items that you can donate. Our once loved items can easily find new homes and still have value. That way we are friendly to the environment and we free up some much-needed space in our homes.
Give the walls a wipe-down
When it comes to cleaning, your walls probably aren't at the top of your to-do list — but you might be amazed at how fresh a room can feel after giving the walls a good scrub. All it takes is a bucket with lukewarm water and soap, a sponge or cloth and viola! Your walls will feel brand new in no time!
Perk up your plants.
This is also the perfect time to check in on the health of your plants. Make it an activity to check the health of the soil, pots and leaves of your plants.
Update your home inventory list.
As you work your way from room to room, make sure to update your household inventory list. This is a great way to keep organised on all the contents of your home and also a great way to check if your household insurance is still up to date.
Now what are you waiting for – time to get cleaning!
