It’s no joke, our living spaces are getting smaller and smaller – but that doesn’t stop us from accumulating more things. No matter how hard we try to keep our space organised, things pile up and clutter soon becomes a very unwelcome feature in our homes.

Luckily there are tips and tricks to make the most out of your space!

Keep organised

First things first - to make the most out of any space, no matter how big or small, start by organizing your things. A well-kept room with everything in its place will already be more spacious. A good way to make sure you stick with a well organised space is to create a system – sort things that are similar, together. Not only will this help you keep tidy, it also makes finding things in your home a breeze!

Declutter

In this day and age we are no stranger to accumulating more stuff than we have room for. If you live in a small apartment or home make sure you do not hold onto things that you do not really need. A good rule of thumb is always that if you have not used it in the past 12 months perhaps it’s time to move on. Remember always consider donating your unwanted goods, rather than just throwing it away.

Hide It

It is not always possible to put all of your appliances, tools and gear in closed storage solutions like wardrobes, trunks or drawers. A creative to play around with space is actually to hide some of your bulky belongings. Find unused areas in your home that most would consider to be wasted space – these areas can easily be utilised. Why not hide your bicycle behind your bedroom door, or how about covering some of your lesser used appliances with nice and modern fabric. These solutions will immediately give you a bigger sense of space!

Digitize

We all have boxes with old documents, receipts, contracts and photos. If you no longer need a physical copy why not scan it and store it digitally on a cloud storage solution. Not only will you be freeing up space but you also extend the longevity of these items as they can easily be retrieved and referenced. No more dust and mite on your documents.

Create Space

Lastly, another great way for space optimisation is to look to vertical space. Easily turn your bedroom or wardrobe door into a space-saving storage unit by adding some hooks from where you can easily hang a few things. And don’t stop there – this can easily be done in your kitchen cabinets and bathroom as well. Underneath your bed is also a good option – place all of your lesser used items in containers that can fit the space and just like that, you have a bespoke storage solution.

The easiest way to free up space in your home is to store your lesser-used items in a self storage unit.
