Feng shui is an ancient principle in creating a positive energy flow in your home and is practised throughout Asia, as well as across the world, to bring prosperity, positivity and peace. There are many intricate rules and the art of Feng Shui is often more a committed lifestyle. However, everyone can incorporate elements of it into their homes, so we have rounded up some top tips that anyone can easily implement to lead the way to happiness.

Declutter your home

Fen Shui is all about creating space, and this means that decluttering is a top priority. Although this can seem like a daunting task, to make it easier break it down bit by bit. Start with a corner or a drawer to make it feel more manageable and let go of what is unnecessary. Remember that life moves in ebbs and flows, and the space may be re-filled again - but this once again gives you the opportunity to filter through your items.

Open up passages and welcoming doorways

The front door of your house is the ‘mouth of the qi’ - it’s where energy enters the home. Feng shui principles say that it should be clean and bright, so declutter the area first, ensure that inside and outside are swept to invite the qi in, and maintain lightbulbs. Then look at the other doorways, which represent communication in feng shui and serve as portals to energy. Keep them open at a 90° angle at all times to continue the flow of good energy and check that all the hardware works properly.

Utilise the command position

A key principle in Feng Shui is the commanding position to keep command of your life and be in the best position to welcome positive opportunities. Apply it to your bed,  your desk and your stove, which represent you, your career and your wealth, respectively. When you are in these areas be sure to face the door, for example when lying in bed or working at your desk you want to have a view of it at all times.

Clean your windows

If doors are the mouth of the home then windows are the eyes. They need to be cleaned regularly so that sunlight is able to flood in without being dimmed. Sunlight is a natural energiser, it helps to wake us up and keeps us recharged throughout the day so we want to encourage its presence. The light gives us clarity and precision and the ability to see the world in all colours.

Boost balance with a Feng Shui colour palette

Colours play a huge role in the feng shui philosophy. Each colour has a specific energy that they help to bring to your home, so choose wisely! For joy, white is the predominant colour to use in your space, while greens and blues promote family harmony and upward growth. Pink helps to bring love and healing, and dark blues guide spiritual growth. Feng shui experts recommend only focusing on three life elements so that the energies do not become muddled.

Practice gratitude

Finally, this is one of the easiest ways to incorporate feng shui and bring it all together. Your home is your heart, it reflects the energy that you put out there. By letting your home know that you are grateful for its protection you will create a cycle of positivity that flows through your life.
